Commissioned
I’m now in that brief lull between wrapping up the myriad loose ends at the church and setting out for Mississippi. Today was a crazy, hectic, wonderful Sunday at Valmont Church – baptisms, new members, Communion, pot-luck dinner, mission trip report and the annual Pie Auction. The generosity and compassion of the folks at Valmont was once more revealed (not to mention a couple of dozen superb pies) as our little congregation raised over $700 for me to direct in hurricane relief aid. In addition the women of the church worked their quilting magic and gave me instructions to find a home their art in Mississippi. (Stay tuned for more details on how the money and quilt will be put to use.)The conclusion of every worship service at Valmont is a “Sending Out” as the worshipers go into the world to do Christ’s service. When we send missionaries on the field we give them a special commissioning. Today I was the recipient of the Elders’ blessing and charge. It was a special privilege to be the object of their prayers and the recipient of their trust in this venture.
iXs,
the Rev
