The Bread Dock...and JAARS Day

One of the fun things here at JAARS Center is the Bread Dock.  I'm not certain where the "Dock" part comes from.  The building is located near Crystal Lake (small pond, actually).  The "Bread" part comes because of the bread that is delivered there four days a week.  On delivery days "day old" bread, and some other assorted food items, are provided by Panera, Costco and Pepperidge Farm.  It's first come, first served, 35ยข per item or 3 for a $1.00.

It's a very popular perk of living here.  I think the Aviation Hangar has an unofficial designated bread person.  In any case there always seems to be a great selection of sweet things on the break room table.

In addition to breads, we have picked up feta cheese and mushrooms.  At Games Night a couple of weeks ago they gave a prize to the family that had the largest number of loaves in their freezer...the winner had 12!  I won't say how many we've picked up.   ;-)

JAARS Center holds an open house four Saturdays a year.  I helped out last Saturday.  It started out rainy, but cleared up enough to have the airshow and rides.
All sorts of JAARS transportation solutions are displayed.  This light weight boat and trailer are designed to be towed behind the motorcycle.  Then when the road comes to the river (with no bridge), the motor cycle is put in the boat and they cross the river.  On the other side the motor cycle takes over again.
The Helio Courier preparing to give its flight demonstration. It took off in less than 6 aircraft lengths!  Landed in about the same.
Safety briefing for passengers prior to their helicopter ride.
The Robinson R-44 taking off.  It carries pilot + 3.  It is used by JAARS in Cameroon, and here at the Center for training.  JAARS also uses Bell Jet Rangers and Long Rangers.  After my shift, Dottyanne and I were given a ride.  It was a fun little aircraft to ride in.
